Individual Details

Seth Spurlock

(29 Oct 1826 - 10 Apr 1923)

As told by Mutt Hager, Seth became hungry and wanted to buy food from some women who told him that they only had buttermilk and cornbread. Seth said that's just what I want. Seth gave the women a $5.00 bill and they only had a $1.00 bill, a .50 cent piece and 1 dime. He accepted this as his change, brought the coins home and gave them to Mutt's mother. The .50 cent piece was one of only a few made and became very valuable. However, someone stole the coin out of an old trunk that belonged to Mrs. Hager.
