Military
Fernandus was the Chief Musician in Company A of the 14th Kentucky Infantry. While in the service, he was in the following Battles; Resecca, Georgia, Dalton, Altuna, Kenesaw, Siege of Atlanta and Jonesboro. Fernandus' grandson, Mutt Hager, stated that Fernandus fought with General Sherman at the Battle of Atlanta. "They fought in front of the town for three or four days. One day two men went into a house in Atlanta and never came out. Three women had cut their throats and killed them. The women were taken out into the street, stripped, and beaten to death with horse whips."Occupation
