Military
David served the Union in the Civil War as a private in Company G of the 7th West Virginia Volunteer Cavalry. The 7th West Virginia Cavalry began its organizational history in Charleston, Virgina in 1861 as the 8th Virginia Volunteer Infantry, became part of the 60th Ohio Infantry, then was a part of the 4th Separate Brigade, then the 8th West Virginia Mounted Infantry, and in 1864, in Charleston, the regiment was reorganized into the 7th Regiment of the West Virginia Cavalry. From early in 1864 until being mustered out in August of 1865, the 7th Cavalry served on patrol duty in West Virginia. David's pension record describes him as five feet, eleven inches tall with fair complexion and blue eyes. David had several children by two of his wives.Endnotes
