Dr. Leonard Joseph Priestley
(Abt 1900 - Jul 1973)
He was a retired Baptist minister and had pastored churches in Greenbrier, Lincoln and Boone Counties of West Virginia. Mr. Priestley was a past president of the Temperance League of West Virginia. He was area missionary in the Guyandotte Baptist Association, and was a member and treasurer of the West Virginia Historical Society. He was ordained as a Baptist minister March 9, 1918. He received an honorary doctor of law degree from Alderson-Broaddus College and was a trustee of the college. A World War I Army veteran, he was a member of the First Baptist Church in Dunbar and lived in Dunbar 24 years. He was a native of Priestley, Lincoln County, which was named after his family.
