Individual Details

John Reuben Adkins

(12 May 1868 - 23 Feb 1940)

John's grandson, Raymond Adkins, remembers his grandfather very well. Raymond was 9 years old when John passed away and can remember every time he visited with his grandfather. John would always take out a small leather change purse and give Raymond and all his brothers the old Indian head pennys and the old Buffalo nickels. John and Eliza had an apartment above a grocery store and the grandchildren would break their necks going downstairs to buy the penny candy. Raymond can remember this as if it just happened yesterday, as his grandparents would shower the grandchildren with love every time they saw them.
