Bufort Benjamin "B. B." McKelvey

Easley---Bufort Benjamin McKelvey, 72, died Wednesday in Easley Baptist Hospital. He was born in Fountain Inn, a son of the late J. f. and Emma Hughes McKelvey. He was a graduate of Wofford College and attended Duke University. He did graduate work at the University of South Carolina, Furman University, the Citadel and William and Mary College. From 1936-74, Mr. McKelvey was an employee of Pickekn County School District. He was a teacher, coach and principal of Easley schools. On April 27, 1980, Easley High School named its gymnasium the B. B. McKelvey Gymnasium.

He was a member of Easley First United Methodist Church where he served as Sunday school teach and president of the Men's Bible Class and Methodist Men's Club. McKelvey also served as a trustee and was a member of the board. He was president of the South Carolina Drivers Training Association, the Pickens County Drivers Training Association and the Easley Lions Club. He was chairman of the Sight Conservation Committee and zone chairman of 32A Lions Club. McKelvey was a member and secretary of Bates Lodge 189, AFM, a Shriner and a life member of the National Education Association.

Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Sudie Kirkpatrick McKelvey; and three sisters, Mrs. Essie McKelvey Adams of Mauldin, Miss Bruce McKelvey of Fountain Inn and Miss Margaret McKelvey of Saluda, N. C. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in First United Methodist Church. Entombment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park Mausoleum near Pickens. Robinson Funeral Home is in charge.
