The State Journal-Register, Springfield, Illinois, February 14, 1999: Pearl Mae Mabus, 94, of Palmyra died Saturday, Feb. 13, 1999, at Carlinville Area Hospital. She was born June 11, 1904, in Ina, the daughter of Virgil and Mary "Mollie" Isom Ackley. She married Harry Edward Mabus Sr. in 1923; he preceded her in death in 1962. She was also preceded in death by a son, Harry Lee Mabus Jr. Mrs. Mabus retired after about 30 years as owner and operator of Mabus Dry Goods in Palmyra. She was a member of Rebekah Lodge, Palmyra Business Association, Palmyra First Baptist Church and Terry Park Community Club. Survivors: two sons, Marion Charles (wife, Mattie) Mabus of Mauldin, S.C., and Bill E. (wife, Beverly) Mabus of Palmyra; two daughters, Norma Janete Spann-Hanks of Girard and Jean L. (husband, Glen) Bettis of Palmyra; 19 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Clifford Ackley of Mount Vernon; and a sister, Martha Owens of Mount Vernon. Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Stults-Neece Funeral Home, Palmyra. Burial: Oak Hill Cemetery, Palmyra.
