Paul Emmett Repass

RePass, a prominent local radiologist and hypnotherapist, died of cancer on Friday. He was 83. A native of Independence, Mo., RePass was the brother of well-known Santa Fe artist Pansy Stockton Fatheree, who lived here from 1946 to her death in 1971. Repass was one of the first local physicians to use hypnotherapy, his son Richard RePass said. He retired from radiology in 1983 but continued to practice hypnotherapy until early this years.

RePass was also known in Santa Fe for his work with the Rotary Club, the American Legion, the Shriners, the English-Speaking Union and the Pi-Kappa-Alpha Social Fraternity. After graduating from the university of Colorado Medical school in 1927, the doctor enlisted to the Navy and served as a lieutenant j. g. until 1928. During World War II he put his medical talents to work on the hospital transport U.S.S. Tryon in the South Pacific. RePass saw several battles during his 15-month tour, including combat at Lido Beach. RePass retired from active service as a commander, and was later promoted to captain in the medical corps. After the war he practiced as a radiologist in Denver, Colo., Binghamton, N.Y. and Saugus, Mass. RePass and his wife Eleanor moved to Santa Fe in 1972. He continued to practice radiology here and later took up medical hypnotherapy. He was a diplomat of the American Board of Radiology and a member of the American College of Radiology, the Radiological Society of North America, the American College of Surgeons and the American Sicety of Clinical Hypnosis.

He is survived by two sons, Richard RePass of Darien, Conn. and David RePass of Storrs, Conn. Richard is president of a bargain book distributing firm in New York and David is a professor of practical science at the University of Connecticut. A memorial service has not yet been scheduled. The family requests donations in lieu of flowers be made to the Santa Fe chapter of the American Cancer Society.
