The Kansas City Star, Kansas city, Missouri, Tuesday, November 13, 2001: Dorothy Lea Merrill, age 75, of Parker, KS, passed away Sunday, November 11, 2001, at the Olathe Medical Center. Visitation will be at Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home, 203 Main St., Osawatomie, KS, from 7-8 p.m. Tuesday, November 13. Services 1 p.m. Wednesday, November 14, at the United Methodist Church in Parker, KS. Burial will be in the Cadmus Cemetery, Linn County, KS. Memorial contributions may be made to the Parker United Methodist Church. Mrs. Merrill was born October 25, 1926, in Parker, KS. She was raised in rural Parker, where she lived with her grandparents, Artie and J.O. Shinkle, while attending and graduating from Parker Grade School and Parker Rural High School. She married Glenn A. Merrill in 1945, and following World War II, they lived in various cities in Kansas and Missouri, before returning to Parker after retirement in 1981. In addition to being a lifelong mom and homemaker, she was a member of the Parker United Methodist Church and was, until recently church pianist and a member of the Beagle "Dinga-Ling" Bell Choir. She was a talented musician, and had many fond memories of school and church musical activities. She was also a life member of the Parker Community Historical Society, the Parker Rural High School Alumni Association, for which she served as captain for the Class of 1944, and a member of the Loyal Workers Neighborhood Club. She was preceded in death by her mother, Nona Bottrell, father, Steve Polly, and stepsister, Lois Thompson. She is survived by her husband, Glenn, of the home, son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Jim and Charlotte Merrill of Leawood, KS, daughter, Glenna Devoy of Leavenworth, KS, five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and half sister, Pat Eich of Walnut Creek, CA.
