Arkansas City Traveler, Arkansas City, Kansas, Thursday, March 10, 1960, Front Page, Col. 8: Death Claims Swan Selan. Retired Santa Fe Engineer Was Native of Sweden. Swan Selan, 1011 S. First St., retired Santa Fe engineer, died Wednesday in the Santa Fe Hospital in Topeka, where he had been a patient for two months. He was born in Sweden, April 15, 1882. Swan entered the employ of the Santa Fe Railroad in the mechanical department May 23, 1907, and to locomotive engineer July 29, 1914. He retired from that position Oct. 24, 1949. He was married to Ruth Evelyn Kirkpatrick in Stillwater Oct. 1, 1913. She had been with him in Topeka during his illness. Survivors include his wife of the home, one son, Maynard Selan Tulsa, one daughter, Mrs. Wayne (Betty) Moore, Little Rock, five grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. George Pappas, 1103 North 13 St. Mr. Selan was a member of the First United Presbyterian church,. The Grant-Elder Funeral home is in charge of funeral arrangements which are pending the arrival of Mrs. Selan from Topeka.
