James Clarke was born in 1900 in Fargo, Cass County, North Dakota. He died in the same city. He was married to a woman whose first name, Elizabeth, is all we have. [Has been updated: Elizabeth Hislop].

Obituary from the Fargo Forum, October 9, 1950: "Jim" Clarke NSP Official, Dead at 48. J. C. (Jim) Clarke, 48 of 1226 Thirteen and one-half st. S, resident of Fargo 23 years, died unexpectedly in his home early today. Mr. Clarke was found dead in his bed this morning. R. J. Yoder, Cass county coroner said death was due to a heart ailment. Mr. Clarke was superintendent of the Northern States Power company gas plants at Fargo and Grand Forks. He had been with the company in St. Paul before being transferred here June 15, 1927. Born Dec. 12, 1901, Mr. Clarke married Elizabeth Hislop of St. Paul in 1925. Besides Mrs. Clarke he leaves two daughters, Margaret and Nancy; a brother, Fred of Red Wing, Minn., and his mother in Red Wing. Mr. Clarke was a member of the Episcopal church. Ivers funeral home is in charge of arrangements.
