She was born on July 7, 1922, in rural Grant County, the daughter of John and Cleo (Trenary) Ludwig. She graduated from Platteville High School in 1941. Dorothy was united in marriage on Sept. 17, 1941, in Platteville to Raymond Sherwin, and he preceded her in death on Dec. 22, 1991. She worked at the Burgess Battery Factory and was a school bus driver for many years. She also was employed at One Hour Martinizing until her retirement. Her greatest passion was her children, and she was a very devoted mother and wife. She is survived by six children, Judy (Bill) Schmidt of Platteville, Virginia (David) Johnston of Belvidere, Ill., Bill (Lois) Sherwin of Albany, Deborah Lamb of Platteville, Stephen (Cherise) Sherwin of Bradenton, Fla., and Tim (Penny) Sherwin of Platteville; 15 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and a sister, Carol Blindert of Platteville. She was also preceded in death by a son, Robert, in 1990; and a brother, Robert Ludwig. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Apr. 12, 2004, at the Platteville United Methodist Church, Platteville. The Rev. Sarah Johnsen will officiate. Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery, Platteville. Friends may call on Apr. 11, 2004, from 4-8 p.m. at the Bendorf Funeral Home, Platteville, or from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday at the Church. The Bendorf Funeral Home is serving the family.
