The North Platte Telegraph, North Platte, Nebraska, Friday, August 13, 2010: Hollis E. Snyder, 98, passed away Aug. 11, 2010, at Great Plains Regional Medical Center. She was born Aug. 25, 1911, at the home of her parents Harry and Nora May Blackstone north of Curtis. She was baptized into the Christian faith at an early age. She graduated from Nebraska School of Agriculture and received Normal Training and taught in several schools including Wellfleet, Moorefield and the Dickens area. In 1933 she taught northwest of Tryon and it was there that she met Miles W. Snyder. They were married June 23, 1935, at her parent's home near Curtis. They made their home at the ranch west of Tryon, living in a log house that Miles had built for them. Hollis was a member of Tryon United Methodist Church, Helping Hand Club, Tryon Rebecca Lodge, Nebraska Cowbelles and Order of the Eastern Star in Sutherland. She enjoyed hunting for old bottles, reading and crossword puzzles. She is survived by her three children, James G. (Joyce) Snyder, of Sutherland; Jerry (Carolyn) Snyder, of Paxton, Jean (Gary) Kemp, of Maywood; grandchildren are Janelle (Kim) Blake, Jill McNutt, Jacquie (Mark) Glaubitz; Joedy (Pat) Snyder, Julie (John) Morbach, Lance (Amy) Lehl, Jaron (Heather) Snyder, Kevin (Jamie) Snyder; Kerri Hill (fiancé Jake McGee), Kort (Lisa) Kemp, Kelvin Kemp and Kristi Kemp (fiancé Josh King); great and great great-grandchildren, Arlis Blake and Brandon; Micki (Tim) Schmidt, Zach and Ethan, Megan (Bo) Krein, Nate McNutt, Margo McNutt and Nick Gifford; Kyle and Logan Baker and Miles Snyder; John Hollis Morbach; Amaris Lehl, Jaden, Carter and Boone Snyder and William Kendrick; Taylor Kemp and Allyson Kemp; she is also survived by sister in law, Bertie Elfeldt; and brother in law, Robert Thornburg; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brothers, Ralph and Dr. Herbert (Alva) Blackstone; and great-grandson, Brandon Lee Blake. Memorials are suggested to the Tryon Volunteer Fire Dept, P. O. Box 65, Tryon, NE 69167. Online condolences may be shared at carpentermemorial.com. Services will be at 10:30 a.m., Monday, Aug. 16, at Carpenter Memorial Chapel with Pastor Jay Bessmer officiating. Burial will follow at the Miller Cemetery near Tryon. Visitation will be from 1-7 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Carpenter Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
