William H. Jordan was born 20 January 1832 in Birmingham, England, and died 27 December 1909, Wyoming, Illinois. At the time of their marriage he was a minister in the Methodist Protestant Church. During the Civil War, he served in the Army. After returning from the war he resumed his calling as a minister. About 1888 he transferred his allegience to the Congregational Church, and continued as a minister in that denomination until his death.
