Fairfield Daily Journal, Fairfield, Iowa, Tuesday, October 27, 1908, Page 3, Col. 4: Leroy Russell Died Monday. Well Known Jefferson County Resident Passed Away, Aged 82 Years. Leroy Russell died yesterday afternoon about 4:30 o'clock after a very short illness at the home of his daughter, Mrs. W. A. Baker on South Sixth street. He was in his usual health until Saturday evening when he was stricken with a stroke of paralysis from which he never rallied. Mr. Russell was born in Belmont County, Ohio December 25, 1926 and came to Iowa in the early part of 1850, settling on a farm in Glasgow. He was married to Miss Ursala Gillham in Glasgow on December 15, 1858. To them were born six children, three of whom Van Litton, Elizabeth and Leroy with their mother have preceded him to that other land. Mrs. Russell passed away on March 6, 1874 and her death was a great blow to the husband and children. Mr. and Mrs. Russell were both well known and highly respected residents of Glasgow and Mrs. Russell's death was mourned by a large circle of friends and neighbors. The first of this year Mr. Russell came to Fairfield to make his home with his daughter and during the few months of his residence here he had made many friends. who with his old neighbors were shocked to learn of his death. Mr. Russell is survived by three children, Mrs. Ann Chapman of Sedro Woolley, Washington, Mrs. Dora Stanley of Allya, Washington and Mrs. W. A. Boley of this city. Beside his children one brother, Richard Russell of Vermillion, Kan., and one sister, Mrs. Eliza Parker of Grinnell survive him He had been a member of the Christian church for a number of years. Short funeral service will be held at the residence tomorrow morning at nine o'clock after which the remains will be taken to Glasgow where the last services will be held in the church at 1:30 o'clock. The interment will take place in the Glasgow cemetery. Rev. Burch of the Christian church will have charge of the last services.
