Ida Olive Bartlett

Rolfe Arrow, Rolfe, Iowa, Thursday, January 11, 1940, Page 4, Col. 4: Mrs. John Hosier Dies At Waterloo. Mrs. John Hosier, 76, former resident of Pocahontas county, died at the home of her son, Carl Hosier, in Waterloo, Sunday, Dec. 31, of ailments incident to advanced age. Mrs. Hosier was one of the few surviving Waterloo residents who attended school in the old stone school house which was the first school building built on the west side and which is now used as a church.

Ida Olive Bartlett, daughter of William and Betsy Bartlett, was born at Janesville, Ia., May 23, 1863, and passed away at the age of 76 years, 7 months and 8 days. When a young girl she came with her parents to Waterloo ad spent most of her life in and around Waterloo. Early in life she joined the Methodist church and remained a member till death.

She was married to John W. Hosier, Sept. 25, 1862 [1882], at Palo, Ia. They spent their early married life in Waterloo, moving to Hancock county in 1896 where they armed near Britt, moving from there to Kossuth county, then to Rolfe where they spent several years on a farm. About ten years ago they moved back to Waterloo where they lived at Cedar Heights.

Mrs. Hosier was a good wife, a kind and loving mother and a good neighbor.

Surviving are her husband, four sons, C. A. and J.O., both of Rolfe, E. L. of Dallas, Texas and Carl W. of Waterloo; five daughters, Mrs. Frank Stearns of Rolfe, Mrs. Joe Hodges of Oelwein, Mrs. Roy Lewis of Cedar Rapids, Mrs. William Duemyer [Dumire] of Balsam Lake, Wis., and Mrs. Melvin Johnson of Iowa Falls, and a brother, Albert Bartlett of Charles City.

Funeral services were held at Waterloo Wednesday, Jan. 3, with interment in Poiner cemetery.
