Gothenburg Times, Gothenburg, Nebraska, August 1, 2007: Ruth Kirkpatrick, 90, She was an accomplished pianist and seamstress. Ruth Kathryn (Whitcomb) Kirkpatrick, 90, of Gothenburg died Saturday, July 28, 2007, at Gothenburg. Services will be held Wednesday (today)) at 10:30 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Gothenburg with the Rev.. Randy Dilt officiating. Kirkpatrick was born of Feb. 22, 1917 in Yuma County, CO, to George and Maud (Ivey) Whitcomb. She graduated from Oxford High School in 1936. Following graduation she attended Kearney Normal School, receiving her teaching certificate. She then taught school for one year in 1938 and worked as a telephone operator in 1939. On July 17, 1939, she was united in marriage of Lewis Wayne Kirkpatrick at Orleans. To this union, four children where born. Kirkpatrick and her husband made their home at North Platte from 1939 to 1941, at Scottsbluff from 1941 to 1945, and at Gothenburg from 1945 to present. She was a member of the Gothenburg United Methodist Church were she was active in the Women's Club, Evening Circle, Utile Dulce, Funeral Committee, Church Building Committee, and a former Board Trustee. Kirkpatrick was an accomplished pianist and a talented seamstress, according to family members. She made numerous costumes for the Community Theater, her children and her grandchildren. She was a wonderful homemaker and the primary caregiver for her mother and father-in-law for many years. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lewis; a brother, McClellan; granddaughter Katie Ivey Huckfeldt. Survivors include: her children---Steven (Kimberlyn) Kirkpatrick of Simi Valley, CA, Dennis (Susan) Kirkpatrick of Gothenburg, Cheryl (James) Sanders of Wabasha, MN and Kimberly (Bruce) Huckfeldt of Chadron; a sister, Grace Draper of Grand Junction, CO; 10 grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren--- Jonathan (Kim) Sanders and their children, Jonathan and Whitney, of Webb City, MO, Kirk (Connie) Sanders and their children, Matthew, Benjamin, Timothy, Marcus and Ruth of Lincoln, Andrew (Amy) Sanders and their children, Zachary, Evan, Maxwell and Coleman of Omaha, Nathan Kirkpatrick of Colorado Springs, Co., Michael Kirkpatrick (Bonnie Kelch) and his sons, Hunter and Michael of Kearney, Dorian Kirkpatrick (Sarah Dullinger) of Englewood, CO, Alexander Kirkpatrick (Jessica Davis) of Loveland, Co, Nicholas Kirkpatrick of Englewood, CO, Hannah Huckfeldt of Charon, and Halcyon (Jared) MacIntyre and their daughter Eris, of Salt Lake City, UT.
