Posted at legacy.com: Helen Margaret Farrell. Helen Margaret Petersen was born in Oakland, CA on December 16, 1925 to Hugo & Grace Petersen. At the age of 5 yrs, she moved to Kenmore, WA with her family where they ran a resort on Lake Washington. She graduated in 1943 from Bothell High School and then Peterson Business School. She began her career as a secretary. In Sept. 1950, she married Thomas Lee Farrell and together had three children. Helen stopped working to devote her time to raising their children. After Tom died in 1964, she worked part-time as a teacher's aide in the Edmonds School District. In 1973, she began work as secretary at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lynnwood, WA. During the 25 yrs she worked at the church, she touched many lives and will be remembered for her kind, soft-spoken and gentle manner. After retiring from Trinity, she remained active in her ladies circle, ringing handbells and serving many years as the memorial reception coordinator. One of Helen's greatest joys was music. In school she played the clarinet. She rang handbells at Trinity for 16 years and will be remembered by her children as 'having a song for every occasion'! Helen went home to be with her Lord and Savior on December 31, 2010, after a long battle with dementia. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Tom and sister Rosemarie Stanfill. She is survived by her children Colleen of Edmonds, WA, Kelly Rickey (Steve) of Lake Stevens, WA and Jeffrey of Tacoma, WA, grandson Derrick Farrell (Heather) of Idaho, great-grandchildren Courtney and Isaac Farrell, her sister Ruth Brooks of Shoreline, WA, nephew Monte Stanfill of California and nieces Kathie Brooks (Bill Fulton) of Brier, WA and Susan Stanfill of California. A memorial service for Helen will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lynnwood, WA on Friday, January 7 at 1:00 pm. Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church.
