Posted at findagrave.com: The Telephone Register, McMinnville, Oregon, Thursday, April 16, 1936: THREE YOUTHS KILLED IN CRASH. Motorcycle and Auto Involved in Mishap. Three youths were fatally injured when the motorcycle on which they were riding sideswiped an automobile about a mile south of Newberg on the Pacific West Side highway about midnight Friday night.

Killed instantly was Glen Mathis, 24, route 7, Salem, who received a crushed skull and internal injuries. Carl Holcomb, 20, McMinnville, died en route to a Newberg hospital from internal and leg injuries. James Hadley, 18, who suffered a fractured skull and broken left leg and arm, died at Wilcox hospital, Newberg, early Monday morning.

The three, riding a motorcycle headed toward Portland and driven by Mathis, collided with a car driven by Sam McCune, 20, of this city. While McCune and Miss Irene Vaughn, 18, who was accompanying him, suffered only minor bruises, the left side of their car was badly damaged by the impact.

McCune reported to Sheriff G.W. Manning and Coroner Glen Macy, who investigated, that he saw the light of the motorcycle only immediately before the crash. No inquest was held.

Mathis is survived by his widow and parents of Salem. The body was sent to Salem for burial.
