Mrs. Howard was a native and lifelong resident of Modesto. She worked as a licensed vocational nurse at Doctors Medical Center 18 years. She was a 1950 Modesto High School graduate. She belonged to Modesto Grace Lutheran Church. She served in the Women's Army Corps from 1950 to 1956, and was a member of the WAC Association, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6311, Manteca, and American Legion Post 74. She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 72, and belonged to Modesto Yosemite White Shrine 42. She was a member of Native Daughters of the Golden West, Morada Parlor 199.

She is survived by her husband, Lewis Howard of Modesto; children, Gary Longworth of Sunland, Brett Longworth of Waterford and Janice Cordano and Karen Lou LeRoy, both of Modesto; and eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A funeral will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Grace Lutheran Church, with burial at Acacia Memorial Park. Visitation from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the McHenry Chapel of Franklin & Downs. Remembrances may be made to Grace Lutheran Church, 617 Orangeburg Ave., Modesto 95350; or Community Hospice, 601 McHenry Ave., Modesto 95350.
