The Citizen, Berea, Kentucky, February 6, 1919, Page 4, Col. 4: Mrs. Maud C. Hatfield. The many friends of Mrs. Maud C. Hatfield were deeply moved upon hearing of her untimely death on February 1.

Mrs. Hatfield died last Saturday in the hospital here. An attack of the influenza resulted in serious complications that demanded an operation, for which she was brought to the Robinson Hospital. Thought everything was done her, she passed to her reward last Saturday morning.

Mrs. Hatfield was the daughter of D. N. Welch of Berea. She was a Berea student and was for four years connected with the city post office and leaves a splendid record of service. In 1916 she married Leonard Hatfield, who was also a student in the school here, and since about a year ago they have made their home in Detroit, where Mr. Hatfield held a position in the Ford Motor Car Works. She leaves a baby daughter four months old.

Though Mrs. Hatfield was not yet 24 years old she has spent many years of Christian service, having become a Christian at the age of eleven. She was always at prayer meeting and Sunday-school at the Baptist church, which she joined soon after here convertion (sic). She was much beloved by her friends and relatives, who will always remember her as the quiet, amiable, serviceful (sic) person she was.

The funeral was held on Monday afternoon, in the Baptist church. The services were conducted by the pastor, the Rev. E. B. English. President Frost also took part in the service and gave a very soothing and encouraging talk. Interment followed in Berea cemetery.

The Citizen, Berea, Kentucky, February 27, 1919, Page 5, Col. 3: In Memoriam. In loving remembrance of our daughter, wife and sister, Maud C. Hatfield, who died February 1, 1919. "A precious one from us is gone, A voice we loved is stilled. A place is vacant in our homes, Which never can be filled. God in His wisdom has recalled, The boon His love has given, And tho the body moulders here, the soul is safe in heaven."

Card of Thanks. We desire to thank all our friends for the kindness shown us during the illness and death of our daughter, Maud C. Hatfield. We also want to thank the Rev. E. B. English and Pres. Wm. G. Frost for their consoling words. D. N. Welch and Family.
