Rushmore crashed Tuesday, killing the three persons aboard. They were identified as James Dexhermer, 24, St. Paul, Minn., the pilot; Sherry Slaughter, 12, South Sioux City, Neb., and Carroll Ketelhut, 59, Lincoln, the girl's grandfather. Chief Ranger Arnold Simmons of the Mt. Rushmore National Memorial said the helicopter, owned by Rushmore Helicopters Inc., crashed in an area of ponderosa pines and rocky ridges about 1 1 /2 miles from the monument. He said the helicopter was apparently carrying members of a chartered tour group. He said he did not know the cause of the crash, but said county, state and federal officials were investigating.
