The Peoria Journal Star, Peoria, Illinois, Sunday, December 19, 2004: Littleton--- John Brian Runkle, 61, of Chapin, formerly of Littleton, died at 6:45 p.m. Friday, Dec. 17, 2004, at his residence. Born March 11, 1943, in Macomb to Raymond and Blanche Gorsuch Runkle, he married Sandra Wendel on March 11, 1972, in Bowling Green, Mo. She survives.

Also surviving are his mother, Blanche (and Clair) Butcher of Macomb; four daughters, Julie (and Bill) Lee and Elizabeth Morse, both of Cary, N.C., Teresa Runkle of Oxford, N.C., and Stephanie (and Scott) Cogswell of Chapin; one stepdaughter, Tracie (and Gary) Simmermaker of Kilbourne; one stepson, Brad Besterfeldt of Jacksonville; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandson. He was preceded in death by his father. He was a self-employed fence builder in the Chapin area. He was active in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts in the Arenzville area.

Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Littleton Cemetery. The Rev. Dixie Croxton will officiate. There will be no visitation. Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the family in care of First National Bank in Arenzville.
