Posted at findagrave.com: William Harold McConnell, age 90, of Texarkana, Arkansas, died Friday, July 24, 2009 in Texarkana, Texas. He was born Sunday, September 8, 1918 in Tribune, Kentucky. Mr. McConnell is survived by his wife of 67 years, Othema Faulk McConnell; one son, Dean and wife Donna, and two grandchildren, Paul and Ashley McConnell of Garland, Texas; a brother, Francis McConnell of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Mr. McConnell served in World War II in the Army Air Corp and saw tours in North Africa, Sicily, Italy, Belgium, France, and England. After WWII, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served 26 years, retiring as a Senior Master Sergeant. He was the recipient of the Air Force Commendation Medal. After retiring from the Air Force, he taught AFROTC at Texarkana Senior High School for 15 years. Mr. McConnell was a 32nd degree Master Mason and Shriner and a lifetime member of the Air Force Sergeant's Association, the Retired Enlisted Association, and the Air Force Association. Mr. McConnell was a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Graveside funeral services will be Monday, July 27, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens in Searcy, Arkansas with interment following.
