The funeral will be 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Pioneer United Methodist Church. The Rev. Dale Cockrum will officiate. A graveside service will be 3 p.m. Saturday at the Tonasket (Wash.) Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Christian Aid Center of the Methodist Church.

One of five children, Mrs. Howell was born Sept. 13, 1902, in the family home near Pomeroy, the eldest daughter of Thomas Lee and Nora Blankinship Corum. She moved with her family to Moscow, Idaho, and shortly thereafter to the Twin Falls, Idaho, area where her father had land-clearing contracts.

Her family returned to Washington in 1916 and settled in Okanogan County, first near Synarep and later in the Oroville-Tonasket area. She graduated from Orville High School in 1923 and entered Cheney Normal School.

She taught in rural schools at Pine Creek, Aeneas Valley and Ellisforde. On Aug. 17, 1930, she married fellow teacher Flint M. Howell in Tonasket. They taught together for several years in small schools in Washington, moving in 1937 to
Ellensburg.

They moved to positions in Ritzville in 1950 and in 1960 went to Oroville where they taught until retiring in 1972. Mrs. Howell had more than 35 years teaching service at that time.

Due to ill health, they moved to Walla Walla to be near their son and family in September 1981.

Mrs. Howell had been a long-time member of various Methodist churches, including Pioneer United Methodist Church in Walla Walla and Oroville Garden clubs and was a former member of the Rebekah Lodge. She also belonged to Oroville and Walla Walla chapters of the national teachers' honorary, Delta Kappa Gamma.

Survivors include her husband, at home; a son, Michael Howell and grandsons, David and Brian Howell; all of Walla Walla; a brother, Wayne Corum of Ellensburg; and numerous nieces and nephews. Two brothers and a sister preceded her in death.
