The Mount Pleasant News, Mount Pleasant, Iowa, Friday, January 2, 1931, Front Page, Col. 2: Genevieve Gregg Called By Death. Dies New Year's Morning; Private Funeral Services Are Held Today. Early Thursday morning as the first rays of the new day appeared heralding the arrival of the new year, occurred the death of Genevieve Gregg, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Gregg at the Memorial hospital where she underwent a major operation last Saturday morning. Although she had suffered intensely from this last illness, the end came comparatively peacefully, and she slept away, with members of her family at her bedside. Genevieve was born in Burlington, Iowa and would have been twenty-two years old had she lived until the middle of January. She attended school in this city and later was a student at St. Mary's Academy at Nauvoo, Ill.
While some are fortunate enough to enjoy good health during their youth, it was not her lot to do so, having been afflicted with illness since her childhood. She felt keenly the fact that she was not able to enjoy the same pleasures as did her friends, but never expressed a word of discontent, rather resigning herself to the situation and living close to her family. She found her happiness in doing kindly deeds for her parents and brothers and sisters. She was a member of the Methodist church and when ever her health permitted attended Sunday school faithfully. She a retiring nature but those friends who grew to know her intimately, loved her for her courage and cheerfulness in spite of ill health.
She is survived by her parents, one sister, Mary Frances, who teaches at Creston and two brothers, Theodore and Bobby and many other relatives and friends. Private funeral services were held at the Cooke Funeral parlors this afternoon at 2:30 in charge of Mrs. R. S. Galer. A small company of neighbors and close friends were present at the services. Many lovely flowers covered the casket expressing the love of many friends. Mrs. Paul Galer sang two appropriate numbers and was accompanied by Dorothy Kean, a close friend of Genevieve on the violin. The services were brief and carried out as much in accordance with the wishes of the deceased as it was possible to do. Six boys who have been in the Gregg home a great deal acted as pallbearers, they were, Walter and Ralph Beattie, Russel Lyons, James Gass, Pete Parks and Francis Davidson. Interment was made at Forest home cemetery.
