The Tribune, San Luis Obispo, California,Thursday, April 12, 2001: Robert John Mountain, 88, a 25-year resident of Los Osos, died Wednesday, April 4, 2001. A time of memorial moments is pending. Mr. Mountain was born in Los Angeles. He was a third generation Californian. He had lived the last 25 years in Los Osos. Mr. Mountain was employed for 30 years as a manager/engineer by the Bendix Corp. of Los Angeles. He frequently traveled internationally for the company, at one point spending three years in England. In retirement he spent five years taking all of the courses in the Cuesta College Art Department. Gifted with imagination and inventiveness, he created musical instruments, fashioned unique jewelry boxes and tried his hand in several artistic media: sculpting, casting, pottery, leaded glass, woodworking and sketching. An outgoing person, Mr. Mountain had a wide circle of friends. He enjoyed boating and was a past commodore at the Morro Bay Yacht Club. Mr. Mountain is survived by his wife, Phyllis of Los Osos; daughter Donna Roberta Springer of St. Angelo, Texas; stepdaughter Marsha Streiker of San Diego; granddaughter Patrice Cory of Hayden Lake, Idaho; three other grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Partners of the Central Coast.
