Lawrence Arthur Williams

(8 Jul 1928 - 18 Jan 2010)

Posted at findagrave.com: WILLIAMS, Lawrence Arthur, loving and beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great- grandfather, ended his mortal sojourn on earth Monday, January 18th, 2010. Even though we who loved him are heartbroken, we are comforted in knowing that, even now, the ministering angels are preparing him for the exaltation he will, we have no doubt, receive.

Dad was born in Phoenix on July 8th, 1928 to Roy Arthur and Lola Nichols Williams. He was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He met and married the love of his life and eternal companion, Beulah Charlene Williams, on May 28th, 1952.

Throughout their lives they were inseparable and unalterably devoted to one another. He served his country honorably in the U.S. Army for 25 years, 24 as an officer. During his time in service he did tours of duty in Germany, Alabama, Taiwan, Washington, D.C., and Vietnam. He was awarded the Bronze Star for his service in Korea.

He retired in 1977 as a Lieutenant Colonel. He also served in varying positions in his Church, including but not limited to Sunday School Superintendant, Elders Quorum President, Stake Missionary, Stake Family History Coordinator, Mission Leader, Temple worker, and faithful Home Teacher. During his life, he and his wife were instrumental in the conversion and baptism of 39 souls into the Church.

As a result of his dedication to and testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, Dad's overarching passion was family history research. He would typically spend dozens of hours per week both at home and in varying family history libraries, and travel thousands of miles all over the country in that effort.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, one sister, Shirley George Riley, Winkleman; one sister-in-law, Dorene Williams, Pinetop; one Brother, Oscar Gene Jackie Williams, Mesa; two sons, Charles Lawrence Arthur Williams, Mesa; Scott Herbert Barbara Williams, Tucson; two daughters, Leah Donnell Steven Davis, North Ogden, Utah; Betty Bruce Williams, Mesa; thirteen grandchildren, and fifteen great-grandchildren.
