Posted at findagrave.com: Aline P. Allbritton, 99, died Monday February 5, 2018 in Bowdon, Ga. Mrs. Allbritton, a native of Simpson County, MS, was the daughter of the late Taylor Jones and Juanita Peacock. She was a 1939 graduate of Copiah-Lincoln College where she lettered in both track and basketball and was named to the 1938 All State team. She was inducted into the Copiah-Lincoln Hall of Fame in 1995.
She married Austin Wilkes Carter in 1940 and began a nursing career, which carried her to Colorado, Texas, before returning to Mississippi. Her career was interrupted during World War II when she and her husband worked in Mobile. Ala., as welders repairing war ships.
The Carters were pioneers in the nursing home industry in Mississippi, establishing Carter's Guest Home in their home in South Jackson in 1954. This meager beginning grew into a 50-bed nursing home, setting the standard of nursing care for the elderly and touching many lives over their 36-year tenure. She was a co-administrator and licensed practical nurse.
In retirement, Mrs. Carter enjoyed traveling and ballroom dancing and in 1988, at the age of 70, captured a first place trophy at the United States Competition in Miami. Widowed in 1979, she continued to be active in her community.
She married Claude Allbritton of Clinton in 1998. They resided in Ridgeland until his death in 2013. In addition to Mr. Allbritton, she was preceded in death by her husband Austin Wilkes Carter and her son Joe Larry Carter.
Survivors include two sons, Jerry A. Carter of Tuscaloosa, Ala., and Jimmy T. Carter of Biloxi, Miss.; two daughters Barbara C. Bort of LaGrange, Ga. and Tamra C. Pierce of Orange Beach, Ala.; 14 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
