The World, Coos Bay, Oregon, Tuesday, June 7, 2005: Feb. 28, 1912 - June 4, 2005. A celebration of life for Vernon E. Liles, 93, of Coquille, will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, June 8, at Coos Bay Chapel, 685 Anderson Ave. Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum in Coos Bay. He was born Feb. 28, 1912, to Helen Amanda Conn and Virgil Edgar Liles, in Garrison, Ky. He died of natural causes on June 4, 2005, in Coos Bay. Vernon was raised and educated in northern Idaho. On Nov. 21, 1936, he married Ila Marie Miller of Kootenai, Idaho, in Bonner County, Idaho. They moved to Coquille in 1951. He was a career logger, retiring from Georgia-Pacific in 1974. He was a lifetime member of the Coquille Valley Elks. Vernon was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Ila Liles; children, Jack and Maureen Liles of Albany, Verna and Larry Brugnoli of Coquille and Sharon and Glenn Thomas of Coos Bay; 13 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister, Ruby Liles; father, Virgil Edgar Liles; stepfather, Ira L. Hunter; and mother, Helen Hunter. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Coquille Food Bank in care of Holy Name Catholic Church, 22 S. Dean St., Coquille, OR 97423. Arrangements are under the direction of Coos Bay Chapel, 267-3131.
