Albert Preston Cunningham Jr.

The Times-Picayune, New Orleans, Louisiana, Monday, January 25, 1993: A.P. Cunningham Jr., an insurance executive and owner of A.P. Cunningham Company, died Saturday at Southern Baptist Hospital. He was 76. Mr. Cunningham was born in Dallas and lived in New Orleans for 54 years. He was founder and past president of the Louisiana Surplus Line Association. He also was an officer and director of the National Association of Professional Surplus Lines Offices. Mr. Cunningham headed the first nationwide legislative committee for general agents. He was a member of the American Association of Managing General Agents and was past president of the Louisiana Fieldmen's Association. Mr. Cunningham was director and chairman of the Rules, Rates and Forms Committee of the Louisiana Rating and Fire Prevention Bureau and chairman of the Advisory Committee of the Fire Companies Adjustment Bureau. He also was chairman of the Insurance Department Task Force on Surplus Lines and was Louisiana legislative liaison for the National Association of Independent Insurers, National Board of Fire Underwriters and the National Automobile Underwriters. The Louisiana Surplus Line Association named Mr. Cunnigham an honorary lifetime member. He was the Club Fieldmen's Association's 1952 Man of the Year, and a lifetime honorary member of the Professional Insurance Agents of Louisiana. Mr. Cunningham was chairman of the Official Board of the Broadmoor United Methodist Church in Baton Rouge, and was a member of the World Trade Center International House of New Orleans. He is survived by his wife, Mary Michael Cunningham; and a brother, J.S. Cunningham of San Antonio, Texas. Visitation will be held today at 10:30 a.m. at Broadmoor United Methodist Church, Moly Lea Drive at Sharp Road in Baton Rouge. A funeral will follow at 11:30 a.m. Burial will be in Green Oaks Memorial Park in Baton Rouge. Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
