David Foster Kirkpatrick

David F. Kirkpatrick was born 29 January 1827, in Wilson County, Tennessee. He married on 11 February 1853 to Elizabeth "Nancy" Baskin, who was born circa 1830 in Tennessee, and died in Texas. This couple is reported to have had seven children. We have the names of six.
Information provided by one of David's descendants, Kirk Patrick Kenyon supplies us with the seventh child and the descendants information for David's daughter Rachel Angelina Kirkpatrick.
Military inscription on grave reads, "11th TN Inft. Co K, CSA."
On the 1880 U. S. Census of Precinct 3, Denton Co., Texas, David Kirkpatrick appears with his wife Eliza and children Thomas M., David, Ella, Robert L. and Bertha W. David is a farmer.

David Foster Kirkpatrick for forty years a resident of Denton, and a veteran of the Civil War died at the home of J. B. Turpen his son-in-law, at 2:20 o'clock Thursday morning. He had been bedridden for the past seven weeks with intervals of consciousness, and the end was not unexpected. All his living children were at his bedside when the end came. Old age was the principal cause of death, but a heart trouble was the direct cause. He had lived an active life always and up to the time of his last illness had been on the streets regularly.
Mr. Kirkpatrick was born in Wilson county, Tenn., Jan. 29, 1827. Married there to Miss Louisa Baskins in 1853, he enlisted from Wilson county in the Confederate army in which he served the full four years. Coming home he refused to take the oath of allegiance required of Confederates, and to his dying day he had never sworn fealty to the United States government.
In 1869* he moved to Texas coming to Denton on June 7. He had lived in Denton county continuously since. His wife died in 1891. Nine children were born to them, only three of whom are living--Mrs. C. S. Wilkins of Lewisville, Dr. D. F. Kirkpatrick of Lewisville and Mrs. John B. Turpen of this city.
All his children were with him at the time of death. Mrs. Wilkins had been summoned earlier in the week and dr. Kirkpatrick, who had been here earlier in the week also, but had to return home on account of his practice, arrived at midnight Wednesday.
Funeral services were held at the Turpen home at 9:30 o'clock Thursday morning, conducted by Rev. Theo Estell and the Confederate Veterans' camp, of which he was a member. Interment was made Thursday at Chinns Chapel, where his wife and other relatives were buried. A number of friends and acquaintances and Confederate veterans attended the interment.
