The Columbian, Vancouver, Washington, Wednesday, January 6, 2010: Jack Calvin Finley. October 15, 1930 ~ December 31, 2009. Jack C. Finley of Vancouver, WA, passed away Thursday, December 31, 2009 after a year-long battle with cancer. He was born October 15, 1930 to Jack and Sylvia Finley of Portland, OR but lived most of his life in Vancouver. Jack attended Ft. Vancouver High School and enlisted in the Navy reserves following graduation. He was called to active duty January 1952 and served as a weatherman during the Korean War. Following his discharge, he returned to the area to attend collage and graduated from Lewis and Clark College. Jack worked as a caseworker for the Dept. of Human Services for one year and returned to school earning a Master of Social Work degree from the University of Washington. His employment took him to the Mental Health Clinic in Vancouver and in 1966 a field instructor for the Graduate School of Social Work, Portland State University. He was soon advanced to Associate Professor. While still working, Jack went on to earn his PhD in Psychology from the University of Oregon in 1986. After a distinguished 30-year career, he retired July 1, 1993 as Professor Emeritus. Jack is survived by his wife of 36 years, Jeanette; sons, Christopher (wife Armida), Dan (wife Karen) and Steffan (wife Barbara); seven grandchildren, Kyle, Tyler, Logan, Steffan, Sawyer, Nicholas and Andrea. Also missing him is his beloved canine friend, Molly. Services will be at 3:00 p.m., Friday, January 8, 2010 at Liberty Bible Church, 12401 Salmon Creek Ave., Vancouver, WA 98686.
