On the 1880 U. S. Census of Heber City, Wasatch Co., Utah William and Elizabeth Averett appear with their 6 children--3 daughters and 3 sons.
Deseret Evening News, Tuesday, January 4, 1910, Salt Lake City, Utah, Page 8, Col. 7: Averett, William---At Heber, Wasatch county, Dec. 29, William Averett, an honored and esteemed Church veteran and Utah pioneer, died of stomach and heart trouble. He was born July 31, 1839, in Hancock county, Ill., in a willow wickiup in which his parents had taken refuge upon being driven from their homes in Missouri by mob violence, and was cradled in the persecutions to which the Mormon church was subjected at that time. Educated in the school of hard times and privations, he was well fortified to become a pioneer of the rocky mountain wilderness. He came to Utah in 1847, when he was 8 years of age, and assisted in driving a flock of sheep with first company of emigrants following the pioneers. He was one of the first settlers also of Wasatch county. He married Miss Elizabeth Hicken, Jan. 1, 1865. There were born to them nine children, 11 grandchildren and one great grandchild, all of whom are living, in fact, this is the first break in that large family circle. He was a farmer and stock man and a highly respected citizen in the community. He was honest, kind and sincere toward his fellow man and affectionate and indulgent to his family.
