Pleasant "Gus" Ray

The Southeast Missourian, Cape Girardeau, Missouri, December 27, 1976, Page 4, Col. 5 & 6: Diehlstadt (Special) Service was held at 2 p.m. today in the McMikle Funeral home here for Gus Ray of Diehlstadt. The Rev. Ben Burks of Marston, assisted by the Rev. Ralph Marshall, pastor of the Diehlstadt General Baptist Church, officiated. Burial was in the IOOF Cemetery near Charleston. Mr. Ray, 87, was born in Cypress, Ill, on Sept. 24, 1899. He had lived in Scott County for the past 71 years. He was a retired carpenter and a member of the Diehlstadt General Baptist Church. On Dec. 14, 1913, he married the former Miss Eva Kirkpatrick who preceded him in death on Jan. 22, 1968. On May 17, 1969, he married the former Mrs. Martha Leona Ross, who preceded him in death on July 14, 1973. One sister also preceded him in death. Surviving: sons, Logan Ray, Potosi, Charlie Ray, Mountain Grove, daughters, Miss Frada Ray, Mrs. Roseolea Tomlinson, both of St. Louis, and Mrs. Reveria Hays, Stroudsburg, Pa., brothers, Arthur Ray, Eldorado, Ill., Artys Ray, High Ridge, 13 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. Mr. Ray died at 7 p.m. Friday in Delta Community Hospital in Sikeston, following a short illness.
