Posted at findagrave.com: Mary Ann Sympson, age 76 of Athens, passed away Friday, Dec. 10, 2010 at her home in the presence of her husband and eldest daughter. She was born on March 27, 1934 in St. Louis, Missouri to the late Rev. & Mrs. L.E. Hard. She lived in numerous small communities in southern Illinois, where her father served as pastor of the Methodist Church. She graduated from high school in three years, having attended three different high schools. After graduating from Metropolis, Ill. high school, she enrolled at the University of Illinois. At the University of Illinois, she met Robert Sympson and they were married on June 16, 1953. They moved to Athens in 1954 when Robert joined the chemistry faculty at Ohio University. Mary Ann was a member of the First United Methodist Church for 56 years. She was a member of the Athens Music Club and the Athens Garden Club. She volunteered for the Red Cross for 30 years, for Good Works, cooked for the free Monday Lunch at the First United Methodist Church until the onset of her illness. She loved choral music and sang in her church choir and Choral Union at the O.U. School of Music. She also loved gardening and never met a flower she didnt like. She was also a skilled seamstress and made most of her own clothes. She was a very loving wife and mother and will be greatly missed by her family. She is preceded in death by her parents.
