Published in The Jackson Sun on Sept. 23, 2005: Funeral services for Rowland Harris 84 will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday September 24 2005 in the Chapel of Lawrence-Sorensen Funeral Home with Rev. Dick Haley officiating. Burial will follow at Andrews Chapel Cemetery in the Huntersville Community. Mr. Harris passed away peacefully on Wednesday evening September 21 2005 after an extended illness. He was preceded in death by his mother Madeline Clason Harris; father Swayne [S. Wayne] Harris and brother Clason Harris. Born in the Huntersville Community he was a graduate of Huntersville High School and Lambuth College. His graduate studies in chemistry were interrupted with the onset of WWII. During the war he served as a supervisor for Hercules Powder Plant that made and tested ammunition. He was the retired owner of Harris Insurance Agency and a former real estate appraiser. He enjoyed tennis fishing and hunting. Much of his time was spent teaching family and friends how to play tennis and to hunt and fish. Church was a central part of his life as he was actively involved as a Sunday School teacher trustee and Board Chairman. He was a member of Grace Bible Fellowship. Mr. Harris leaves behind his wife of 59 years Beulah Goodson Harris. He is also survived by his children Ron Harris and wife Gale and Carol Williamson and husband Bill. Other survivors include grandchildren Ruth Simpson and husband Clint Matthew Harris and wife Angela Andy Williamson and wife Melissa and Brian Williamson and great-grandchildren Shelby-Kate and Bonnie Williamson. Visitation with the family will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. today at the funeral home. The family would like memorials to be directed to the Andrews Chapel Cemetery Fund.
