Savonburg---Albert Emmanuel Hawkinson, 81, died Tuesday at 1:45 p.m. in Neosho Memorial Hospital, Chanute, following a stroke suffered April 7. He was born at the family homestead, June 30, 1878, to Peter and Johanna Olson Hawkinson, west of Savonburg. His father and his uncle, Swan Olson, were first to settle the Swedish community. In his early childhood his mother died and for a time he lived at the home of his uncle. In his youth he farmed with his father and brother, Charlie Hawkinson. On Sept. 28, 1915, he married Lillie Ann Ham. They lived in her childhood farm home near Porterville, which they had purchased. They moved to Savonburg in the 1920's. His wife died June 14, 1953. A sister, Mrs. Hannah Hawkinson Johnson, Mulhall, Okla., died in 1933. For a year following his wife's death he made his home with his brother, Charlie Hawkinson at the family homestead. For the past nine months he had been at Bryant Nursing Home in Chanute. Survivors besides his brother are six nieces and six nephews. The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Friends Home Lutheran church, west of Savonburg, with the pastor, the Rev. A. harry Ericson, officiating. Burial will be in Swedish cemetery in charge of Ralston Funeral Home, Moran.
