Iola Register, Iola, Kansas, Monday, April 2, 2001, Page 5, Col. 1: Vernon A. Larson of rural Elmore died Friday, March 30 at Mercy Hospital in Fort Scott . He was 94. He was born Aug. 21, 1906 west of Savonburg to Anton and Olive Nelson Larson. On Nov. 3, 1925, he married Zodeen Rumbeck. She died in 1996. He was a farmer all of his life. He was a member of Mission Covenant Church, which is now Evangelical Covenant Church west of Savonburg. He is survived by two sons, Buford and Bernard Larson, both of Elsmore; a sister, Dorothy Bailey of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Two grandsons, Ronald Dean Larson and Jeremy Larson, a brother Earnest Larson and a sister, Edna Snyder, died earlier. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Elsmore United Methodist Church, Pastor Connie Cox will officiate. Burial will be in the Elsmore Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Johnson-Kunkel Mortuary in Moran. Memorials to Basic Cancer Research may be left at the funeral home.
