Inland Valley Daily Bulletin, Ontario, California, Wednesday, August 27, 2008: Evelyn J. (Merritt) Chase. Chase Evelyn J. Chase passed away on August 21, 2008 at the age of 90. Born on June 21, 1918 to Wilbert C. Merritt and Florence Hosher*, she was raised in Corry, PA. On March 16, 1938, she married George B. (Barney) Chase. They had two children, George R. (Bob) Chase and Sharen Elaine Piercy. They were owners of Merritt Appliance in Corry until they moved to the Pomona Valley in 1956. She retired from Albertson's after working 22 years as cashier and bookkeeper. Evelyn enjoyed working as a volunteer for Pomona Valley Community Hospital in Pomona and the La Verne Senior Center in La Verne. She was devoted to her family . Evelyn is survived by her son, George R. (Bob) Chase and his wife Barbara of Pomona; her daughter, Sharen E. Piercy of San Dimas, CA. She is also survived by nine grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. Evelyn was a member of the New Hope Church in San Dimas, CA and also attended Mountain View Mennonite Church in Upland, CA with her son and daughter-in-law. There will be a memorial service during regular church services on August 31, 2008 at 10:30 AM at the Mountain View Mennonite Church, 1120 W est 13th St., Upland, CA 91786. All are welcome to attend.
