Bettie Lena Bell Bailey

Bettie Lena Bell (Bailey) Bale, went to be with the Lord on 07 Nov. 2009 in Bremerton, WA. She born 26 Feb 1922, Puyallup, Pierce Co. WA to Harold and Ethel (Edwards) Bailey. She was raised on a farm in Jovita, Pierce Co. WA with her brother, Jack and sister Margie. In 1936 Bettie moved with her family to Bremerton, WA. She worked for the N.A.D. during the War. Bettie met her future husband, Edward Earl Bale at a Craven Center dance in Bremerton. They were married 21 May 1941, at Honolulu, Territory of Hawaii at the Iona Place by Judge Brooks. On 07 Dec.1941, they lived in "Campas Court" on the wind side of the island when Japanese rockets hit the middle of the wash hut where she had just been standing. In 1942 Bettie returned to the mainland with rest of the servicemen's families in a guarded convoy. In 1943 she and Eddie were united when he was allowed home on leave. The couple was later deployed at San Diego, CA., Hawaii, (twice) Whidley Island, WA. and finally back to Bremerton, WA. The last fifty years the couple resided in Bremerton with their family. After Edward's retirement from the P.S.N.S. the couple traveled extensively by themselves and with their grandchildren around the United States to Ghost Towns and other historical stops and down to Lake Tahoe and Virginia City, NV. and up into Canada.

Besides being a true homemaker, Bettie also found time to be a doll maker, seamstress and dressmaker, and taught her daughter and grand daughter. She crotcheted sweaters, slippers, did fine needle point on the tablecloths and jackets, she was a member of the Ladies Aux. of the Volunteer Fire Department in Navy Yard City, of the Grandmother's Club, Garden Club, N.A.B.A. Insurance Group. As a genealogist, she and her daughter, Earlene traveled across the United States visiting old towns and homesteads. She practiced the gardening of the iris and roses, and surrounded her home with the plants. She loved her pet poodles and cats, and was always taking in stray kittens.

She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother and great grandmother. She opened her home to many foster children. Survived by daughter, Earlene Bale, Bremerton; son, Eddie Bale, Bremerton; foster son, Ron Lindsey, Bremerton; one sister, Margery Woodruff of Port Orchard; granddaughter, Angela (Eric) Strandberg, Spokane, WA; grandson, Todd (T'mara) Bale, of Bremerton, WA; Desi Dobbs, of Port Orchard, WA. Great grandchilden: Denise of Olympia, Belinda of Bremerton, WA; Candace of Lacey, WA; Russel Strandberg of Spokane WA ; Jory and Jesse Bale of Bremerton, WA; and Thomas Rice Bale of Mason Co. WA., Xander Bale of Bremerton, WA; Joseph, Christopher, Chandra and Harley of Port Orchard, WA. Great-great grandchildren: Bradley and Valasiah of Jefferson Co. WA; Leigh and Liam of Olympia, WA; Josiah of Lacey, WA.

Preceded in death by her spouse, Edward Bale, in 1997; grandson, Eugene Edward Bale, in 1996; and her brother, Jack Bailey, 1992. At her request she was cremated and there will be no services.
