Born Sept. 8, 1913, to George and Flora (Phipps) Burge on a farm southeast of Lincoln. His mother and baby sister died with he was 2 1/2 years old. He, his father and older sisters Ruby and Erma lived on a farm in the area. He attended Walton school, graduating in 1930. Leslie's father married Sophia Schwegman when Leslie was 12 1/2 years old. Leslie was baptized and confirmed March 24, 1929, at Trinity Lutheran Church by the Rev. Starck and has been a member ever since. He has served as a trustee and chairman of the church council. Leslie married Florence Pump at Trinity Lutheran Church Oct. 17, 1934. After their wedding, they lived on a farm north of Bennet for three years, during which time a son, Gerald, was born on Nov. 14, 1935. Leslie worked at the Burlington car shops from 1937 to 1948, after which time they returned to a farm near Walton. Survivors: wife, Florence; son, daughter-in-law, Gerald and Darlene Burge, Lincoln; four grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by: parents, George and Flora Burge, sisters, Ruby Burge, Erma Schultz. Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Trinity Lutheran Church, 162nd and Old Cheney Road. Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation: noon-8 p.m. today, Metcalf Funeral Home, 245 N. 27th St. Memorials: Trinity Lutheran Church.
