The Quincy Whig, Thursday, December 5, 1878, Page 8: William M. Kirkpatrick, an old and extensively known citizen of the county, died recently in Lima township. Mr. Kirkpatrick was born in Madison county, Ill., Feb. 25, 1811. He came to this county March 10, 1829, where he has resided ever since. He died at the residence of Mecagah Stone, near Ursa, on Friday night, Nov, 22, of what was supposed to be heart disease. He appeared to be as hearty as usual at supper time; ate his supper, and retired early. His bed-fellow discovered that he breathed very heavily, soon after retiring and called for some one to come into the room. Mr. Stone went in, but Mr. Kirkpatrick breathed but a few times and was dead at 9:30 o'clock. Mr. Kirkpatrick lived for several years in Lima, engaged in the business of school-teaching and merchandise. He was postmaster during the years of the civil war. He was the friend of science and progress, and a strong advocate of human liberty. He leaves a wife and six children, with very many warm friends to mourn their loss.
