Arthur Gordon Ames

The Oregonian, Wednesday, November 26, 1975, page 29: Arthur G. Ames a former Washington County commissioner, died Monday in a local convalescent center at age 67. Service will be at 3 p.m. Sunday in First Baptist Church, Portland, followed by private cremation in Portland memorial Mausoleum. Born in Cheney, Wash., Mr. Ames was in the grocery business in Portland from 1930 to 1950. From 1950 until 1968 he worked as a real estate broker in Portland and later in Tigard. He served as a Washington County Commissioner from 1959 to 1968. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Portland Rotary club and Tigard Rotary Club, and former member of the St. Johns Optimist Club. Survivors include his wife, Elsie; daughter, Virginia Johnson, Portland; sons, Robert and Gary, both of Portland; and six grandchildren. The family suggests remembrances be contributions to the Arthur Ames Memorial Fund in care of the Youth Department of First Baptist Church.
