John Eli Church

Church, a retired tooling inspector for General Dynamics, now Lockheed Fort Worth, died Tuesday at a Fort Worth hospital. He was 80. Funeral will be at 11 a.m. today at Biggers Funeral Home in Lake Worth. Additional service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mabel United Methodist Church in Mabel, N.C., where he was a member. Burial will be in Moretz Cemetery in Mabel. Mr. Church was born in Mabel and lived there most of his early years. He went to work for F.W. Woolworth & Co. in St. Louis in 1935, and in 1941 he began work for North American Aircraft Co. near Dallas. He moved to Fort Worth in 1945 when he began work at GD. He retired in 1972. Mr. Church was also a member of Lake Worth United Methodist Church. The family suggests that memorials be made to the memorial fund at Lake Worth United Methodist Church, Tarrant County Chapter of the American Cancer Society or a charity of choice. Survivors: Wife of 52 years, Doris Vernelle Church of Fort Worth; daughter, Gloria Jeanne Lechler of Fort Worth; two sons, John Stephen Church of Fort Worth and Niley Monroe Church of Wichita Falls; sister, Bulis Greer of Zionville, N.C.; and six grandchildren.
