El Paso Times, El Paso, Texas, June 26, 2001, Page B 2: Griffith Capt. Robert A. Griffith, U.S.A. (ret) passed away Friday, June 22, 2001. He was born in Waterloo, IA on December 22, 1931. He joined the U. S. Army in 1951 as private rising to the rank of captain before retired in 1971. He was posted to Japan from 1952-1957, where he met surviving wife Toshie J. Kuhugihara. He served two tours of duty in Vietnam during the Vietnam war and also served in the Korean War. Among many awards he received during his career were the Army Commendation Medal with 2nd OLC and the Bronze Star with 2nd OLC for meritorious achievement in ground operations against hostile forces in the Republic of Vietnam. He moved to El Paso in 1970 and he retired in 1971. He lived in El Paso until his death. He also worked as a Satellite communications Specialist for Hughes Aircraft and as an independent contractor in Satellite communications for Hughes Aircraft and NASA. Captain Griffith is survived by his wife of 44 years, Toshie; his daughters Diane Zimmerly and Susan Brown; his sons, William and Michael Griffith; grandsons: Sean Brown, Jack Barnes, Patrick Brown, Joshua Griffith, Steven Zimmerly, and Robert Zimmerly ; Granddaughters, Jennifer brown and Kristen Griffith. Services will be held at Mt. Franklin Funeral Home on Tuesday 26, 2001 at 7:00 p.m. Military commendation Ceremonies will also be held for Capt. Robert A. Griffith on Wednesday 27, 2001 at 3:00 p.m. at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and a friend to all he met. Although his life ended abruptly, it was filled with love, adventure and emotion and those who knew him could not forget him. It is safe to say that hose who cared for him in life will be greeted with open arms by him in death. Thank you for all you have done, we love you and we wait until we can see you again.---Love your wife, children and grandchildren.
