Funeral services Monday, Nov. 10, at 3:30 p.m. at the First Congregational church, Lake st. and Kenilworth av., Oak Park.
The Oak Parker, Oak Park, Illinois, Friday, November 14, 1930, Page 38, Col. 4: Charles H. Wells. Prominent Resident and Former Village Attorney Passes away---Lived Here Thirty-seven Years. News of the death of Charles H. wells brought sorrow to a host of friends and business associates in Oak Park and Chicago. He had been in failing health for the past two months and passed away at his home, 177 North Grove avenue, Saturday, November 8. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the First Congregational church of which he was a member. The casket was surrounded and banked with beautiful floral tributes and the church filled with friends from all walks of life. Soft organ music played as Dr. Albert Buckner Coe, pastor and Dr. Albert W. Palmer, former pastor, paid tribute to Mr. Wells' life, stressing his genial personality, ability to make friends and his feeling of responsibility in all undertakings. Interment took place at Graceland.
Charles Wells was born in Arthur, Wis., and in 1893 married Miss Mary Henderson of Platteville, Wis., they coming to Oak Park as bride and groom. Mr. Wells served as village attorney of Oak Park from 1906 to 1909, for one year during the presidency of Mr. Ray and for the two years Mr. Hamilton served as president of Oak Park. He was a past president of the Oak Park Country club and was also affiliated with the Oak Park club and the Under-Side-Walk club of Chicago. Charles Wells was graduated from Cornell, class of 1890 and a member of Phi Delta Beta fraternity.
Surviving members of Mr. wells' family are his wife, Mrs. May Wells, a brother, Lester K. Wells of Livingston, Wis., and several nephews and nieces. Mrs. George H. Frost of Pasadena, Calif., sister of Mrs. Wells, arrived this week to be with her sister at this time and will remain for about two months.
The pallbearers included: Oliver M. Caldwell, Stanley Charleston, Walter Carr, Paul Chapman, Oliver Caldwell Judge Frank Garner.
