Smith, 92, an Arizonan since 1884, when he came to the Verde Valley with his parents from Springfield, Mo., died Wednesday in the Pioneers Home. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. tomorrow in Ruffner Funeral Home. The Rev. Merle Heatwole of the Skull Valley Community Church will officiate. Interment will follow in the Pioneers cemetery. Mr. Smith constructed rural home lines for the Arizona Telephone and Telegraph Co. in 1908. A year later, he was made manager of the Humboldt telephone office. In 1918, he transferred to the Phoenix telephone office , where he worked for four years. Mr. Smith began a long service as law enforcement officer in 1924. He served as served as deputy sheriff in Williams for two years, then moved to Prescott in 1926. He served as deputy sheriff under several sheriffs and had been special officer until last year. His wife Rosa; a daughter Mildred Ralston, Cottonwood; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren survive.
