From Find-A-Grave: Evelyn M. Gherke, age 72, died on Saturday, January 4, 1997 at the Willows Nursing Home in Sun Prairie after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Tarnov, NE on December 30, 1924. She married Marlin Gherke on November 22, 1944 in Nebraska. Evelyn was a member of St. Albert's Catholic Church. She is survived by her four children, Marlene (Ron Hilger) Maly, Roy (Cheryl) Gherke, Ron Gherke, and Kevin (Shelly) Gherke, all of Sun Prairie; six grandchildren, Lisa Maly, Jason and Craig Gherke, Shawn and Corey Gherke, and Kyle Gherke; grandma's littlest Angel expected soon; three sisters, Elsie (Clem) Rozmiarek of Nebraska, Angie (Jack) Sokol of Kansas, and Mary Scarborough; and three brothers, Isadore Kwapnioski, Leander Kwapnioski and Conrad (Pauline) Kwapnioski, all of Nebraska. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister Geraldine and infant twins. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 8, 1997 at St. Albert the Great Catholic Church, 2420 St. Alberts Dr., Sun Prairie, with Father Larry Bakke officiating. Burial will be in the Sun Prairie Memory Garden Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 7, 1997 at the Tuschen-Newcomer Funeral Home, 302 Columbus St. in Sun Prairie and from 9:15 a.m. until the time of services at the church on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers a memorial will be established in her name for St. Alberts new building.
