William Hubner Maxwell, 500 S Ninth street, a resident of this city for the past 73 years, died in St. Francis hospital Monday evening at 6:50 after an extended illness. Born Feb. 1, 1868, in Henderson county, Ill., the son of Samuel and Mary Maxwell, he came to Burlington with his mother when a child, on the first passenger train to cross the railway bridge. The engineer on that train was Frank Reynolds. For 53 years Mr. Maxwell had been an engineer on the Burlington, having retired several years ago. On March 20, 1901 he was united in marriage with Miss Effie Sage at Monmouth, Ill. Surviving are his wife, three grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Mr. Maxwell was a member of the First Christian church, the I. O. O. F. lodge, the Railway Veterans organization and the B. of L. E. Funeral services will be held in Prugh's chapel, Thursday afternoon at 4 o'clock, the Rev. W. B. Slater officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park cemetery. The remains will be removed to the residence from Prugh's chapel, Wednesday morning and will be returned to the chapel Thursday morning.
